  1. Make cfbreak work with cfoutput

    I would like to see cfbreak useable with cfoutput, exactly the same way it does with cfloop.

    <cfoutput query="GetResults">
    <cfif field1 / field2 lt 7>
    <cfbreak>
    </cfif>
    </cfoutput>

            • give an option for ORM to return empty strings "" instead of Nulls in ORM.

              CFquery always returned empty strings '' for nulls, but ORM returns nulls. It would be nice to have an option to return empty strings from ORM without having to override every getter on every ORM object.

              • Have arrayEach() pass index as second argument

                This would allow for filtering on index (e.g. odds, evens, step)

                  • Support Secure FTP (SFTP)

                    I need SFTP for various vendor integrations-- would love to see SFTP support in Railo so that I can get off ACF completely and not have to maintain ACF and Railo servers side by side.

                    For implementation, this open source library appears to be decent: http://www.jcraft.com/jsch/ and I believe is the same one that ACF uses as well.

                    • add NTLM support to cfhttp and/or cfinvoke

                      The http client library used by cfhttp appears to be able to support various authentication types including NTLM, this would be highly useful for accessing pages or webservices on Windows servers.

                      • Allow for a few additional characters in function names

                        It would be nice to use at least ! and ? in function names, ala Ruby. Examples would be empty?() to check if a collection is empty (while also having a empty() function that empties the collection) and reverse!() to modify array instead of returning new array.

                          • allow wildcard host names in the server.xml

                            Currently, in order to create a new host in our web server, we have to add the site to our web server and then add an entry for the host in the server.xml file then RESTART Railo. We need the ability for the server to listen for requests to an IP address or at least a wildcard host (*.domain.com). Requiring a restart of Railo/Tomcat every time a new host is added is not conducive to shared hosting or applications that are dynamic based on the domain name.

                              I like to have the railo server admin open all the time and Google chrome has this nice pin tab feature, however without fav icon it's hard to distinguish from other pinned tabs or to distinguish serveradmin from webadmin

                              • Option to disable "powerful" tags in .cfm files (views)

                                Nowadays, most developers use an MVC-like pattern to separate logic from presentation. Regular .cfm files are often only used for views, but they still have all the power of cfquery, cfdirectory and the like. This is often not needed, but also it could be tempting to do a cfquery "this one time". Or dangerous, if views are developed by frontend devs that only know some CF to get views working. I know of one company that is developing in CF but is using Freemarker as their template engine for this reason. To me that's the world on its head, seeing…

                                • Don't throw an exception when a struct key does not exist, but return null

                                  If you access a non existing struct key, you get an error. It would be nice that instead, the value null would be returned. E.g.

                                  value = local.keythatdoesnotexist

                                  After this, value would be set to null. Railo already supports IsNull(local.keythatdoesnotexist), so maybe it's not too difficult to go this one step further.

                                  This also comes in very handy when returning values from functions. If the value can be null, which happens more often now that we have ORM, you have to enclose the return statement in an if statement. It would be cleaner if you could just return the variable.

                                  • Enable async I/O and event callbacks in the core language

                                    The idea is javascript style callback function support which would make it easier to implement custom event systems and track status of long running tasks without having to block on a thread join. It would also enable Railo to add non-blocking replacements for CFHTTP, CFQUERY and others. Other modern frameworks/languages seem to be able be innovating in this area aggressively. I.E. node.js, tornado. The main difference is the new features would unlock the ability to have poll/epoll OS style idle state that minimize resource usage for the task to finish its incomplete tasks. I think database NIO would require a…

                                    • support for CFPRINT

                                      This request came in from the Railo blog. A "long time supporter" is disappointed that we're not supporting CFPrint.

                                      • Inline pure java in cfscript

                                        I realy would like to see the super exciting embeded Java extension to the cfscript tag. In openBD you can drop pure-raw Java code inside CFSCRIPT and the OpenBD engine will automatically compile and optimize it on-the-fly and execute it when the request gets there.
                                        http://www.openbluedragon.org/manual/?/cfscript_java

                                        • Add functions to measure the size of CFML data types during a request

                                          One of the hardest things to know is how much memory different CFML approaches use in the middle of a request because garbage collection is so random, you can't measure the difference of heap state and get an accurate number. I often find the best performance comes from copying less memory and hopefully using I/O that is closer to the cpu cache. Giving us more tools to measure should us make more efficient systems. I was able to use eclipse MAT and jmap, java heap stats, but that is more difficult to analyze since I'm not a java developer.
